I had high expectations for this one but in the end I felt it was held back by too much clutter. There's lovely stuff here: the role of the house in one's lives and over generations, the topic of generational passed on trauma, ... But I just wish it was tighter. The film would have had more impact to me without the subplot delving into the actual past of the grandmother or the subplot of the father's brief hospital visit. Was it not enough for the lead to have finally read the script and understand this is how he expresses his emotions? Even the ending scene could have done with a solid two minutes cut.
The visual juxtaposition of the two leads is also interesting, but narratively felt like it was hammering down the same message over and over.
