The premise of a guy attempting to find freedom through capitalism and hustle his way into wealth as an alternative to the hopelessness felt by the iceberg generation in Japan's stalling economy, yet only to be cornered into inevitable violence is in itself fine, even if not particularly original, but the practical execution is embarrassing for a director of this standing. The dialogue, script, and acting are all so substandard that I completely lost my suspense of disbelief halfway through (and that's not even diving into the bag of misogynist tropes performed by the lead's girlfriend), especially having watched this shortly after the impeccable No Other Choice and Evil Does Not Exist.

A shame because this could have been more interesting if it genuinely explored, within a Japanese context, how the protagonist might have gotten deluded into practices of drop shipping, scalping and/or pyramid schemes, sold by online snake oil salesmen promising masculinity, wealth, and access to female bodies, with a touch of Kurosawa's horror aesthetics. Would not recommend.
