While the film's background is one of a changing landscape of 90's China and the contradictions the students faced between their socialist education and ongoing exposure to western consumerism, watching this as an outsider to this period of time and cultural landscape still gave me such relatable flashbacks to my time at university; the big dreams and endless philosophical meandering of an early 20s student.
Such a charming slice of life work. I'm glad I finally was able to watch it two years later after initially acquiring tickets and then missing it at two separate film festivals back on its release.
