The only thing Napoleon has going for it is its indulgence in farcical iconoclasm; a very deliberate depiction of a near-mythological historical figure as a comically inept, less-than-human caricature.

Weak cinematography washed in an uninspiring color palette, atrocious scriptwriting, and a plethora of historical inaccuracies aside, the stereotypical juxtaposition of Napoleon's love life with his military prowess challenges absolutely nothing in our common understanding of Napoleon's era, and not even once delves into the less-commonly depicted societal changes of France and Europe at that time. So what exactly was the point of this film aside from making me laugh with such bangers as: "You think you're better than me because you have boats?" "Destiny brought me these lamb chops" - Napoleon Bonaparte, 1804
