Entertaining and pretty much what I had hoped Mickey 17 would have been, even if it's at times just a modern reimagining of Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys. Some thoughts:

The ending dialogue with "AI representating the worst of us" is pretty bland and misses the ball in its societal criticism; especially since the film does occasionally subtly do well at that. The "thank you for your service" line alongside forced advertisements is a nice nod to the intersection of state and private industry in late stage capitalism. So was the interpretation of school shootings as part of modern US economy.

In that sense, I would have enjoyed it if the twist at the end related to the competing AI company that rebuild Darren as a voice-only hard drive.

While a bit of a trope in time loop movies, I'm tired of seeing movies incorporating motherhood these days, especially given the political climate is one where even France is sending 29yos a "chop chop better hurry" letter these days.

Call me Unc but I'm old enough now to watch a "technology is corrupting our kids" movie and actually agree.
